T.H.E. Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Program

At T.H.E., we view the Federal Graduate PLUS loan as simply another opportunity to help a student satisfy any unmet need for education financing. In a very real sense, the PLUS is an alternative to alternative loans.

T.H.E. will work with schools to offer graduate students an additional resource to help them meet their education financing needs and will offer the following key features of the T.H.E. Federal Graduate PLUS loan:

T.H.E. will provide comparison information of a T.H.E. Private Loan and a T.H.E. Federal Graduate PLUS Loan so applicants can make an informed decision on the type of loan they want to apply for through our online application tool.
At the school’s option, T.H.E. will make information available on the pros and cons of each loan type to help them with their decision.

For students who fail the PLUS credit criteria (see the specific credit criteria), we will provide clear instructions for the PLUS endorser option as well as information about credit appeals and how to correct erroneously reported information.

Students will be faced with the same decision homeowners face today: fixed rate or variable rate. Personal comfort levels may dictate a good part of that decision. We will provide historical trends for the various interest rate indexes to help the applicant review the interest rates for the past 5 years, 10 years or even 20 years to help in their decision-making process.
Through our loan servicer, T.H.E. Federal Graduate PLUS borrowers will be placed automatically into an in-school deferment status provided they are enrolled at least half-time as reported by the school’s registrar to the National Student Loan Clearing House.
